The WAHM Study

Our current poll is about WAHMs and childcare. Childcare can be a very contraversial issue for mothers. In fact, it is one of the issues that greatly divides mothers because they feel so strongly about it.

Some mothers say that they work at home so that they do not have to use any type of childcare (including relatives). It is definitely an advantage to mothers to be able to work from home and not have to pay childcare costs. In addition, some mothers are morally opposed to childcare.

On the other hand, many work at home moms say that working at home is just that–working. They say that it is impossible for them to be able to get their jobs done without using some level of childcare. Childcare used varies from a babysitter a few days a week to a full-time nanny to daycare facilities.

We’re curious at WAHMStudy.com whether you use childcare for your work at home job. Vote in our poll today or leave your comments.

Yes, childcare is a must. For me.

I’m often asked why on earth do I need childcare if I work from home…

I am with the ‘because I’m WORKING’ crowd - before the kids were at full-time school I needed the ’space’, I couldn’t work with them running around (and nor would I want to be doing so). Now, they get extra ’social time’ after school. Why do I get criticised, when I would be ‘at work’ for even longer in a 9-5 job to get the same money…

The real benefit for me is the flexibility and not having to grovel or ask for time off from work…

I can take the kids to school/events during school hours/appointments and activities; I can volunteer and help out in school; I am here if the kids are ill; I can nip up to school if I’m needed or there is a problem; I’m home when the kids are home and not stuck in traffic getting stressed out; we have tea at tea time and all tucked up in bed without a tired and stressed out mum from a day’s work and commuting.

The other major benefit, is that because I run websites, they run on auto-pilot if I am unable to ‘work’ for whatever reason…

…and since I have another baby on the way, working from home is going to be even MORE beneficial.

    It works for us :-)
